Dr Emily

Emily and I spent three years joined at the hip as clinical partners at Warwick Medical School, which meant we'd seen each other hilariously hapless & vulnerable (me far more so) before I ever pointed a camera at her. She was a performer first. Most of her life before medicine was spent on theatre stages, and it shows the moment she has an audience - she loves to teach and students love her (she literally won the Kindness Award at Warwick).

She continues to teach as she works on her dream of becoming an oncologist, building on her pre-medicine BSc in Human Cellular Biology. What does a portrait of someone like that need? Less direction than you'd think. She already knew where the light was.
